Dear Daniel Solís Escalante,

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the 2009 International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition this summer and to attend the iGEM 2009 Championship Jamboree October 30 to November 2, 2009 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

Last summer, eighty-four student teams from schools in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the US specified, designed, built, and tested simple biological systems made from standard, interchangeable biological parts. They presented their designs and systems at the 2008 Jamboree at MIT. This project design and competition format is an exceptionally motivating and effective teaching method. The accomplishments of a small number of undergraduates during a summer can be quite impressive.

This year iGEM is even bigger with over one hundred teams and we’re sure the Jamboree and the projects presented there will be even more innovative and exciting.

Schedule of Events
Spring Workshops - MIT, May 16/17, 2009 – to be held at MIT, Cambridge, MA, USA;
  Europe, June 20/21, 2009 – to be held at Imperial College, London, UK;
  Asia, June 27/28, 2009 – to be held at University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan;
iGEM Jamboree - October 30 to November 2, 2009 – to be held at MIT, Cambridge, MA, USA;

Remember, teams may be any size, but must have at least two instructors and must be composed primarily of undergraduate students. The at least one instructor must attend one of the spring workshops (students are highly encouraged to attend) and all students are expected to attend the Jamboree in November. You can view the complete list of requirements for participation in iGEM 2009 on our web site.

We look forward to seeing you at the spring workshops and at the Jamboree.
