Hi, my name is Allen Cai. In the beginning of iGEM, the only training I had prior was taking two years of biotechnology at Abraham Lincoln High School. I learned the basic techniques that most labs used, like mini prep, digestion with enzymes, running a gel, western blot, etc. I also took a cell culture class in the spring semester of my senior year at City College of San Francisco. This cell culture helped me a lot, since I had to take care of dictyostelium cells right now. My goals before iGEM is that I wanted to create drugs that can help cure/eliminate diseases. I had no idea how I would really achieve this, but it was my goal. I knew I wanted to pursue my education further into science. Science is by far the most interesting subject there is, with new scientific discoveries and ideas coming out all the time.
