The first iGEM 2009 spring workshop will be held on MIT campus at the Stata Center on May 16 and 17.
Details:
There is no charge to attend. |
Workshop videos: All of the talks given at the iGEM spring workshop @ MIT were video recorded. See the Instructional Videos page.
Prior to attending the workshop: please make sure to join Team Example. Instructions on how to do that can be found here [pdf].
Who should attend?
Every team MUST send at least one instructor. In the past the workshops were targeted specifically towards the instructors. This year, however, students are highly encouraged to attend as well! Portions of the workshops will be specifically geared towards students.
You only have to attend one of the three workshops, whichever one you choose, but you must attend at least one regardless of whether you are a returning iGEM team or not.
Your Role in the Teachers Workshop
Each team will be given less than 5 minutes to speak about their team and their involvement in iGEM this year. We advise against presenting slides because of time - as we are getting larger we want to give everyone the opportunity to speak but appreciate that we aren't just inviting you to come listen to team backgrounds all day. Please think about and be prepared to speak informally about the following:
- How did you hear about iGEM and why did you get involved?
- What are your expectations and hopes for iGEM 2009?
- What has happened at your school to get ready for iGEM 2009?
- Please describe the team - the students, the instructors, and the facilities available.
- How are you supporting your team financially?
- What projects is your team considering so far? (optional)
Please do not plan to give a presentation of the team's project. That will happen at the Jamboree.
Agenda
There will be a buffet dinner on Saturday following the workshop.
Travel Information
Directions to MIT from Logan Airport
By taxi - Taxi fare from the airport is about $20-$25. During non-rush hour, the taxi ride will take about 15 minutes. During rush hour, the ride could take 30 minutes.
By subway - From any terminal at Logan airport, take the Silver Line bus to South Station. At South Station, change to the Red Line subway (inbound toward Alewife) and exit Kendall/MIT to go to the Stata Center. If heading to the Hotel at MIT, continue on one more station to Central. Under normal conditions the ride will take about one-half hour and the fare is $2.00. Click [http://www.mbta.com/traveling_t/schedules_subway.asp here] for maps and information about the Boston subway system.
By car - Leaving the airport, follow the signs to the Sumner Tunnel. Enter the tunnel and stay in the right lane. At the end of the tunnel, continue to stay in the right lane, start down an incline and bear to the right immediately at the sign for Storrow Drive. Take Exit 26 for Cambridge/Somerville. Follow the signs for Back Bay/Cambridge (do not take the exit for Cambridge/Somerville). Stay in the right lane and follow the signs for Storrow Drive Westbound. After you pass under the pedestrian walkbridges, change to the left lane and take the exit for 2A North. Turn right and cross the Harvard Bridge (Massachusetts Avenue). MIT's main entrance is 77 Massachusetts Avenue, and it will be on the right at the second set of traffic lights.
