Leuven is the oldestof the catholic university in the university. It can proudly call itself the oldest university of the low countries. In the 16th century the university was at its first peak and it earned worldwide fame thanks to brilliant scientist and professors as Adriaan van Utrecht, Mercator, Vesalius, Erasmus and Vives. Up to the present day, this is still one of the university's tradions.
