The University of Leuven has its roots back in the 15th century. The university was founded in 1425 as Studium General by Paus Martinus V. K.U. Leuven is the oldest of the catholic universities in the world.
In the 16th century the university was at its first peak and it earned worldwide fame thanks to brilliant scientists and professors as Adriaan van Utrecht, Mercator, Vesalius, Erasmus and Vives. Although it has had its ups and downs, the university can look back to a glorious past.
