The University of Leuven has its roots in the 15th century. It was founded in 1425 as a Studium Generale by Paus Martinus V. The K.U. Leuven is the oldest of all Catholic universities in the world.
The 16th century was the Golden Age for the university. It earned worldwide fame thanks to brilliant scientists and professors as Adriaan van Utrecht, Mercator, Vesalius, Erasmus and Vives.
