Meeting Minutes April 30th
To do now: • If you are heading research group (see below), contact committee, arrange meting time • Fill out doodle • Get a passport • Sign up for more stuff (especially if you weren’t at the meeting – just e-mail me and the people you’d be working with to add yourself to a team) • Let me and your subgroup know if you have been assigned a task that you don’t have time to do (we weren’t sure who was actually here for the summer) • Make sure you’ve signed up on the internal wiki – e-mail Enoch if you’re confused. • Each subteam should set up a page on the wiki and post what they’ve found/tried/decided/looked into as they go.
If someone can me make a page on the wiki for who’s doing what, that’d be great. Let us know if you want to.
Future Meetings: Future meetings: Meetings approx. every two weeks of the entire team, likely a mix of Mondays and Fridays, 5-7pm. Minutes will be posted for people who can’t attend. Please fill out the doodle; in about a week I’ll pick meeting times and post a complete list on the wiki.
Subteams are expected to arrange their own meetings as needed (likely quite frequently).
About every week, a representative of each subteam will meet…subteams elect a representative and we’ll figure out a meeting time from there.
Next meeting: Friday May 8th 5pm location TBA (I’ll book a room in CAB) All research groups will be expected to have FINISHED research in the literature, and have a list of lab supplies to order. Each group will share their conclusions (informally…no powerpoints necessary). Also, for the bioinformatics team (Enoch, Kevin, Dan…who am I missing?) - would you be able to have some system for ordering things, tracking expenses and cataloguing where stuff is up and running by Friday to show us?
Research Groups – so much reading to do! In bold is the person responsible for making sure the group gets together and gets the job done. These groups will exist until Friday (or until the job is done) and then people will be redistributed amongst the science subteams below 1. Determine list of essential genes – David, Julia, Mitch, and an awesomely adept computer savvy person who name I forgot to write down (sorry! Please remind me!). We will need help ASAP looking up genes – if you weren’t at the meeting, sign up for this! 2. Design primers and check for restriction sites - David, Julia, Mitch, the computer savy person (sorry again!) 3. Bead system research – Justin, Oscar, Jon, Dan 4. How to build the chromosome (in vitro or in vivo?) – Erin, Steven, Mitch, Jonathan 5. How to reboot – Max, Anh, Youness 6. PCR on a chip (you’ll find out about this soon) - Eric and Dennis
People interested in lab work: James will give us some lab orientation sessions – likely a couple of three hour sessions some time next week. Jen Anh Steven David Oscar Dennis Kelly Youness Alina Mitch Julia
If you want to work in the lab and weren’t in 482, you should get oriented in our lab. Let myself and James know so we can make it a time that works for you.
Science Subteams – work can start in parallel on all of these.
Plasmid makers: construct pBA, pAB and the first and last segments for circularising constructs made on beads – Uche, Alina, Jen
Bead system testers: Order and test the bead system for linking together constructs. Determine how error prone the system is and how long of constructs we can make. Justin Oscar, Jonathan
Cloning ORF and RNAs: PCR, clone into pBA, pAB, nick to give overhangs: Dennis, Oscar, Julia, and the plasmid makers when their done. We need LOTS of people for this – so if you weren’t at the meeting and want lab work, sign up for this!!
Gene expression: decide which promoters and terminators to use for which genes, and what will be needed for operon construction. Obtain template, PCR, clone into pBA/pAB, nick to give overhangs: Kelly, David, Amber
Chromosome construction testing: Erin, Jonathan, Steven, Mitch,
Reboot testing: Max, Anh, Youness
