|Our team comprises of 9 undergraduates pursuing their bachelors in Biotechnology and is supported by two faculty members from the Dept. of Biotechnology of our institute. Though we are all from the same department, we are a diverse team with different skill sets. Some of us are good at wet lab while some of us are good at simulations and modelling. Our project is based on the concept of plasmid loss or in other words plasmid instability in bacterial cells. By the end of September we hope to complete the project and get our model working. We also hope to supplement this with some computer simulation work which would demonstrate the variations in the parameters we want to look at with the number of plasmids in question.

|This is the second time that IIT Madras has sent a team to iGEM. Our team in iGEM 08, the first team ever to represent India in the competition, won the “Best Foundational advance” award and a Silver, for their work on hybrid promoters which have now been added under the category of promoters (IIT Madras Stresskit promoters). This year, the team is composed of 9 Undergraduates, all from the Department of Biotechnology. We hope to go one step better this year with our design of a combinatorial lock system, and thereby set the standard for future competitions.
