Gel Extraction

What you will need:

  • Clean scalpel
  • Transilluminator
  • Eppendorf tube
  • Gel extraction kit
  • 55degC water bath
  • Vortex
  • Microfuge

Procedure

  • Place the gel on the transilluminator. Put on face shield and gloves.
  • urn on transilluminator and quickly make four slices; one on each side of the band you want to cut out and turn transilluminator off. Keep exposure to a minimum.
  • Pry out the gel ‘cube’ and place it in an eppendorf tube.
  • Follow instructions in kit manual.
