Why a communication plan?

In our opinion it is very important to scientists to communicate about there work. This communications is needed to inform the public about the scientific break-thorough in order to gain public perception. Communications is also important because scientific work needs funding. This work is funded by public money or by companies, therefore it is important to communicate about the work, the benefits etc.
During the iGEM competition communications plays also an important role. We have to communicate with potential sponsors to gain there interests. We have to communicate with the sponsors to keep them satisfied and gain there interest for sponsoring next iGEM teams. We have to communicate to the public in order to gain public interest for our project and also to inform the public that new scientific developments like Synthetic Biology could be very beneficial to the society. We also do want to promote our participation to the competition, our University, the iGEM competition and Synthetic Biology in general.
Therefore we developed a communication plan which should be a systematic manual to us to communicate with the outside world who is not familiar with our project in order to gain as much as possible attention and inform the public.
