April Meetings

We had several brain storming sessions in april.. We met up with group leaders in Biotec and CRTD to discuss prospective projects and look for things that really interested us..

We met up with Dr Monika Sturm from the Dept of Theoretical Computer Science, TUD to discuss about the possibility of doing a project on DNA computing. The topic seemed interesting but we were not sure if we had the necessary expertise to pursue a project in the field, especially since its so new.

We also ahd along and insightful talk with Prof Neinhuis, Chair for Botany, TUD. One of his major research interests is Biomimetics, and we talked at length about the possibility of using some interesting properties in algaes, and try to use it in the iGEM context.

There were discussions with Prof Schwille, who helped us develop the idea of using vesicles and GUVs for gene expression. This is an idea that fascinated everybody, so we decided to read up further on this topic. Eventual discussions with Prof Stewart and Prof Schwille gave shape to the final project.
