Silver Nano Particles - Methods

A ---- ml aliquot of the silver binding peptide ( sequence -----) was obtained from.... Two different experiments were setup using the following protocols.

Protocol 1:

A protocol that was initially used to identify metal binding peptides by was used to nucleate and grow silver nanoparticles[1].

  • 120 ul peptide (8ug/ul)
  • 14 ul HEPES buffer at pH 7.5
  • 1.4 ul AgNO3 at 20mM
  • 4.6 ul H2O

The solutions were mixed and incubated at room temperature for 24-48 hrs.

Protocol 2:

A method designed by Fromm and Wennemers [2] was used to form silver nanoparticles by using a chemical reducing agent, sodium ascorbate (NaAsc.)

  • 120 ul peptide (8ug/ul)
  • 14 ul NaAsc. at 2mM
  • 1.4 ul AgNO3 at 20mM
  • 4.6 ul H2O
